History

Within the war-torn realm of Sanctuary, where the eternal struggle between Heaven and Hell rages on, the Shadowblade stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity. 

Their story began in the kingdom of Khanduras, a land plagued by demonic forces and the insidious corruption that emanated from the depths of Hell. Faced with constant threats, the Rogues emerged as stalwart guardians of their homeland. Masters of stealth and survival, they honed their skills to become deadly adversaries against the encroaching darkness.

When the forces of darkness threatened to unleash Diablo, the Lord of Terror, upon the world, the Shadowblades responded swiftly. They descended into the depths below Tristram, where Diablo's sinister influence had taken hold. Armed with their unparalleled stealth and lethal precision, the Shadowblades navigated the treacherous catacombs. Their ability to move silently through the shadows allowed them to strike at Diablo's minions without warning, thinning the ranks of his corrupted horde.

As the Dark Wanderer, under the possession of Diablo's essence, embarked on a path of destruction across Sanctuary, the Shadowblades relentlessly pursued him. They doggedly followed the trail of chaos left in the wake of the Dark Wanderer's rampage. The Shadowblades infiltrated demonic strongholds, gathering vital information about the Dark Wanderer's whereabouts and his nefarious plans. Their encounters with the Dark Wanderer's corrupted minions were swift and deadly, leaving no room for hesitation or mercy.

When Baal, the Lord of Destruction emerged, Tyrael enlisted the help of the Shadowblades. Again they provided critical intelligence, scouting enemy lines and identifying strategic weaknesses. With their help Tyrael was able to follow Baal to Mt. Arreat and confront him within the Worldstone Chamber.

While their specific actions and missions may vary, the Shadowblades continue to serve as a hidden force, ready to strike at the heart of darkness whenever it threatens to engulf the world. They work in tandem with other champions and organizations dedicated to the preservation of Sanctuary, collaborating on missions of utmost importance.

Class Features

Description

As the sun sets over the desolate landscape, casting long shadows across the worn cobblestones of the abandoned cathedral, the Rogue known as Valerian receives an urgent message from a mysterious source. It reveals the existence of a summoner named Malachi, who poses a grave threat by attempting to summon a powerful demon within the crumbling walls of the forgotten cathedral. Valerian, a master of shadows and deadly precision, takes it upon herself to hunt down this cult leader and put an end to the nefarious plot before the demon is unleashed upon the world.

Valerian embarks on their mission by stealthily navigating the labyrinthine corridors and dimly lit chambers of the abandoned cathedral. She relies on her keen perception to detect any hidden traps or cultist guards, remaining as silent as the shadows themselves.

Utilizing her Shadow Step ability, Valerian slips through the cracks of the decaying structure, moving from shadow to shadow with supernatural grace. Her movements become a dance of darkness, as she stalks her prey, always staying one step ahead.

Valerian's blades shimmer as she imbues them with festering shadows, preparing for the confrontation ahead. She cautiously approaches the chamber where the final stages of the summoning ritual are said to take place, her senses heightened and their focus unbroken.

In a sudden burst of action, Valerian bursts into the chamber, blades flashing with lethal intent. The darkness roots Malachi in place, leaving the cult leader vulnerable to Valerian's deadly strikes.

Twisting Blades unleash their lethal power as Valerian impales a cultist, causing them to writhe in pain as the spectral daggers orbit the Rogue. The ethereal knives serve as a haunting reminder to the cultists, dissuading them from interfering in the battle.

Valerian's relentless assault takes its toll, her strikes finding their mark with deadly precision. Cultists fall one by one, their desperate attempts to complete the ritual thwarted by the Rogue's unwavering determination.

In a final climactic clash, Valerian delivers the decisive blow to Malachi, ensuring that the summoning ritual is disrupted and the threat averted. The abandoned cathedral echoes with the fading remnants of dark magic, as the once-ominous atmosphere begins to dissipate.


Shadow Step

At 3rd level when you become a Shadowblade, you gain the ability to become one with the shadows and swiftly move across the battlefield to strike your foes. When you use your Cunning Action to Dash, Disengage, or Hide, you can also teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see dim light or darkness. After you use Shadow Step, your movement speed increases by 10 feet until the end of your turn.


Imbuement

At 3rd level, you learn to harness the power of festering shadows and imbue your weapons with their necrotic energy. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose to deal additional necrotic damage equal to half of your Sneak Attack rounded up. This necrotic damage increases at 11th level (1x Sneak Attack). Enemies hit by this attack have their movement speed reduced to 0 until the end of your next turn.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.


Dark Shroud

At 9th level, you can surround yourself with protective shadows, forming a dark shroud that cleanses negative conditions and offers resistance against incoming attacks. As a reaction , you can activate your Dark Shroud. This automatically removes negative conditions affecting you and you gain resistance to the next attack that hits you.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.


Twisting Blades

Upon reaching 13th level, you gain the ability to impale enemies with your blades, causing them to take additional damage and attracting spectral blades that orbit you. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose to mark them as impaled. The impaled creature bleeds for additional damage equal to your Sneak Attack damage at the start of its next turn.

Additionally, spectral blades orbit your space until the end of your next turn. When an enemy enters the space within 5 feet of you or starts its turn there, it takes necrotic damage equal to your character level.

This ability may be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.


Shadowform

At 17th level, your mastery over shadows reaches its pinnacle. As a bonus action, you can transform into a shadowy form for 1 minute. While in this form, you gain the following benefits:
